Twice the Time, Twice Good News

I know this seems to be really late and perhaps I was having trouble keeping up a weekly good news blog.  But with some minor victories come some minor defeats and failures.  With this defeats and failures come a chance to learn.  I managed to spend about a week and a half in the hospital from things like the flu and not being able to breathe.  Those things are behind me and now that I have had a chance to look back at things I should have kept up with my communication because you guys had a boat load good stuff that more than likely would have cheared me up.  In any case, here goes, your double stuff good news.

Good News for the Week of 15 February 2014
  • Susan survived Raleigh Snowopolis 2014.
  • Melissa got a new laptop.  Awesome.  Welcome to windows 8.  May the force be with you.
  • Niny reports that the Alpha Chi Sigma colony at Philadelphia University is growing.  Perhaps we see a petition for chapter in the near future.
  • Abbey was celebrating a rest day.  Then onward with training.
  • Donna had a wonderful Valentines Day/Birthday.  Way to celebrate your 50th.
  • Danielle reports that the Little Mermaid and Jungle Book are in theaters.  It would be awesome to see the classic in the theaters.
  • Maggie let us know that the family emergency is over.  I assume that my grandmother is doing well and that my stay at the hospital was no real big deal.
  • Shannon and the kids had the week off and made their way to visit with family.
  • Shannon also go waterproof toe shoes for slogging through the slush.  I always found that waterproof shoes work both ways and when water gets inside is doesn't come out.
  • Somehow Donna's 8 miler made her shoulder stop hurting from the shoveling done earlier in the week.  I know how.  It is called the runners high.  When I run I feel no pain.

  • Mark only needs one word but two exclamation points. Baconfeast!!
  • Maggie is coming to Philly to visit her totally awesome on in 7 billion son.  And she is bring Chuck too.
  • Pam reports that all is calm on the Texas family front.  No hospitals or doctors.  And I hear that it actually getting warmer there.
  • Matt is proud to announce the establishment of a new chapter of Alpha Chi Sigma at Georgia Southern University.  The Delta Gamma chapter.  Congratulations to the brothers at Georgia Southern and to all of those that helped with the effort.  Long live our brothers in the chemical sciences.
Holy crap that was a lot of good news.  I have been saying that it is the minor victories that can make our life so much more positive than what is seems to made into in the media.  In this case, I think we are looking at more than minor victories but triumphs.  We are regaining our youth and enjoying the part of life that is our own.  Sure there is drama and our jobs, spouses, bosses, kids, drivers on the road or potholes are driving us crazy but then Baconfeast or a good run happens it becomes our personal Calgon.  Thanks for sharing and I cannot wait to hear more great news in the future.

Good News Weekly (8 February 2014)

I know I am really late with this.  It has been a rough week.  I had the flu and on top of that my lungs are kind of refusing to work.  I swear I am going to get them removed so I can beat the crap out of them.  In any case, things are going a little better and I got a great response from my call for good news.  You guys are amazing and find something good in life every day.  That is the point, isn't it?  So here it is.

Good News for the Week of 8 February 2014

  • My Psycho swam her first 1000 yard race on Friday night.  She did awesome.
  • Melissa's kids had their eye exam and no problems were found.
  • Josie and crew made their ever first glass fused bowls at the Y and it was above zero degree outside as well.  I remember those frigid days up in Northeast Ohio.  I miss you guys but not the weather.
  • Jen reports "The kiddo beat her goal time and came out of the pool tired but happy. She was the last one still swimming, but had a fantastically consistent race and had everyone cheering for her at the end."  I couldn't be prouder.
  • Shannon says that the East River Esplande was unexpected open.
  • Abbey set a PR in the 10k last weekend and it is finally raining in California.  Awesome on both fronts.  Perhaps they can take some of the polar vortex from the right coast.
  • The big rock that hit Susan's car only damaged the windshield.  She and the rest of the car are okay.
  • Pam's wonderful brother & his father in law were able to fix her heat at 10 pm last night.  It's a good thing because this may be the only time they use the heat in Texas.  Way to go Mike.
  • Pam reports again that Mathew did well in his singing program.  Way to go cousin.
  • Calvin won a winner take all Texas Hold Em Tournament last night! $8 in, $72 out. And he got to hold his friend Stefany's beautiful 6-day old daughter on Tuesday.
  • Helen has made it official.  Caitlin can no do cartwheels.
  • Chuck only needed one word for his good news. "Sushi"  Sounds delicious, perhaps we can go over to Morimoto's if he is ever in the Philly area.
  •  Martha had fun testing for her new belt at Master Seo' Tiger Kicks Taekwondo.  I think I know who to call to back me up if I get into a fight.
  •  Donna reported back that I am not in the ER and that I am to stay out of there.  That is my plan.
Well, that was a bunch of great news.  Not just good news but great news.  Tony the Tiger Ggggggreat news.  So many wonderful things are happening all around us but it seems like we are consistently being told that the world is falling apart.  Don't believe the hype and celebrate the good shit.

Good News Weekly (1 February 2014)

Another Friday went by and another good set of good news is coming up.  I got to say it was a banner week.  There could have been a lot of drama but in the end a lot of things worked out.  Of course snowpocalypse 2014 hit the south this week and our Georgian brothers forgot how to drive but from what I hear all has been taken care of.  Stay safe down there guys.  Take my advice pull down your pants and slide on the ice.  Here is the contributions to the good news for the week.

Good News for the week of 1 Feb 2014

  • I actually got home in time to take the Psycho to swim practice this week.  Twice.
  • My grandmother (Ultra-Violet) successfully made the trip from Texas to Florida and everything is set up to take care of her thanks to some good planning.  Remember I did not plan to fail but failed to plan.
  • Melissa saw two bald eagles in one day.  One in the back yard and one at the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel.
  • Carolyn is starting triathlon training in memory of her brother-in-law.  Also, she had dinner with the sister and kids last night.
  • Helen reports that the fraternity has another pre-colony at the University of Kansas trying to bring back Kappa chapter.  The fraternity is growing by leaps and bounds these days.
  • Sandy says: "My wife passed her Dosage Calculations test to enter an RN program!"  Hopefully this will lead to a fruitful career in the healthcare industry.  We need more rescue ninjas.
  • Mitch said "Clifford, our foster dog, survived his emergency surgery to repair a strangulated hernia, and after a rough post-op week, his appetite is back, he's eating full servings, and he's having appropriate bowel movements which indicates his intestinal tract is no longer obstructed. Never thought I'd be so happy to clean up dog poop"
    Mitch Levings's photo.

  •  Jen submitted the paperwork for the quality inspection that is coming up.  I know it was a tough couple of weeks and we are all relieved that this stress is behind her.
  • Jennifer got an eye exam and the doctor told her that the eye surgery that she had in the past is in the past.  Good stuff.  I don't know if I could let someone mess with my eyes for surgery.  The idea of it freaks me out.
  • Calvin is spending the weekend in Sun Valley, ID for some cross country skiing with some friends.  I want to go.  I have heard it is beautiful there and an awesome place to run.
  • Maggie reports that the mother-in-law is all moved in without much drama and she seems to like living there.  Also, the mother-in-law, my grandmother, got a chance to talk to me on the phone and it was all good.  I usually wasn't able to get her on the phone before she moved.  Now I can which is awesome.
Well, guys it seems like we have another great list of victories.  Also, we have gotten another month of 2014 out of the way.  February, though short, can have a shit load of good things happen.  I just know that as we cherish all this good news things will look brighter.  Also, I really want to thank Mitch for sharing the picture of the puppy.
